Suzanne Somers book

Cancer treatment is a very sensitive issue to me. People close to my heart have fought this dreaded disease, some have won and survived while some finally succumbed to Cancer after a long and hard battle.

This is the reason why, while I was on the front page of MSN (and I don’t know why I haven’t changed the default page in Firefox) this morning, I just had to click on the link which took me to a page about Suzanne Somers and the alternative cancer treatment she subscribes to. Apparently, the American Cancer Society disagrees with her revelations on her book, Knockout, and considers the alternative cancer treatment featured in the book as risky.

Dr. Otis Browley, a practicing oncologist and the Chief Medical Officer of the American Cancer Society wrote a piece on CNN, saying,

She is a wonderful actress, and I wish she would stick to her first chosen profession. I know some people will hear her message, follow her advice because of her celebrity status and be harmed. Her medical advice may even cause death.

Personally, I do agree that because of Suzanne Somers’ status or popularity (She and her book have already been featured on various publications, websites and even on Oprah, of course there’s some relative popularity there), a lot of people who are seeking alternative treatment for cancer may just follow her advice.

I am happy that what she’s sharing with all of us actually works for her, but does it follow it would work for everyone else?
