Summer vacation here in the Philippines is only a few weeks away. If I only had the money, I would probably be busy planning for an expensive summer getaway already, like looking for resorts in Fiji or even Outer Banks vacation rental. One can dream, right? My reality is far from a luxurious vacation, though.
Since March came around the Summer heat is being more unbearable each day. To top that, my area is affect by the almost daily rotational blackouts. Now in my village, when there is no electricity, our water supply is cut off, too. It’s a good thing that I have a well pump in my backyard. So whenever the water distributor would fail the entire neighborhood, my house still has ample supply for washing.
But! It’s not just us residents who are suffering from the heat and drought. My entire garden is suffering, too. Take a look.

Above is my Eugenia plant. Notice the leaves are somewhat curling. They’re dehydrated! Here’s another shot below.

The leaves of the Eugenia should not be curling down like this and withering. It should be standing straight and proud. But look how the Summer heat has turned my beautiful Eugenia into a withering plant.
I have to save my plants somehow. But I also have to find ways to beat the heat while conserving water. Water is precious and so are my plants.
What about you? Are your plants affected by the scorching Summer heat? What are you doing to conserve water? Comment and share your story!
