Driving is never an easy thing to do. Not only are you trying to get from point A to B, but you are also making sure that you – the driver – and your passengers arrive safely to your destination.
Well actually, it’s not just you and the people in your vehicle you are thinking about. You are also making sure that the other motorists around you and the pedestrians are safe. And so it is a must that you check your vehicle’s condition before the trip, as well your physical condition.
Drive Safely, Double Check the Following
- Check your vehicle frequently. Do a routine check of the following: brakes, engine, fuel reserves and airconditioner. Make sure that all your tires are properly inflated, and that you have a spare tire in hand.
- Check yourself. You should always be aware of your physical condition. You need good vision and hearing, great coordination and fast reflexes when you drive. You must always be alert and responsive in order for you to be able to drive safely.
- In addition to the previous point, never drive when you have been drinking alcohol, when you have been taking any prescription drugs or over-the-counter medicines that can make you drowsy, when have been emotionally upset or physically tired. These conditions can cause you to become careless and may lead to road accidents.
- Make sure you have emergency numbers ready. It could be in your mobile phone or in a notepad/notebook stashed in your glove compartment or even in your bag. Should you have an emergency on the road, have the roadside assistance number within your reach.
Make it a habit to check and re-check your vehicle and your itinerary before leaving the house. Doing these things always will help you avoid hassles and even accidents. Be safe!
