People have different ways of encouraging oneself, of pushing oneself farther, of dealing with pain and disappointment. Some people do what they love to do, what they’re good at. Others try new things. Some give themselves a to-do list, while some remind themselves of joys, previous achievements.

Sometimes, when I need to push myself a bit farther, I do a little positive self talk. The following are the things I tell myself at times.

  • You don’t need the help of a cosmetic surgeon. You need to eat right, keep it in and NOT barf, and keep yourself moving. Maybe some jenny craig and Lucy Knight workout DVDs can help, too.
  • There are many things you can do well. Sure, you suck at taking pictures. But you don’t need to always see yourself fail at it just because you want to please someone. Do the things that you do well – the things you love.
  • You’re a mom. Act like one.
  • You don’t have to be everything. Just yourself.
  • People depend on you, so get yourself together.
  • Smile. In spite of everything, the one you love, loves you right back.
